The explosion of data from complex networks, including communication, cyber-physical, information, robotic, biological, and social media networks, has raised new challenges for the mathematics and control of such networks.
Understanding, analyzing, designing, and optimizing such systems is confounded by key features of these networks: they are massive, dynamic, often only partially observed, do not always admit quantitative descriptors, and have specific functions which differ from network to network.
Further, the rapid expansion of network analysis across many disciplines has resulted in a varied set of terminologies and core principles. The Vertex Center members seek to understand and engineer desired interactions and actions on such massive graphs. These complex networks require novel methods in communication, computing, sensing and control.
